Updated June 13, 2019 10:02:35 The plastic surgeon who performs the most operations on our heads is John Johnston.
The 42-year-old is renowned for his “high-tech” surgical techniques, but he is also the most recognised for his work in treating the plastic roof of the head.
“He is the only one I know who has the ability to repair and reconstruct the plastic in the way it was before it’s ever been,” said Dr James MacDorman, head of the plastic surgery department at King’s College London.
“His work is in a class of its own.”
Mr Johnston’s plastic roof surgery is so special that it is now used by other surgeons to repair or reconstruct the roof of their heads.
“It’s the only roof repair technique that is done by a specialist, which means it’s not just for the people who wear it, it’s for everybody,” he said.
“You have to be able to get it done, you have to have the patience to get the job done, but then you have the power to change the roof to something more appropriate.”
Once you get the right kind of plastic, you can reconstruct the rest of the body.
“The procedure Mr Johnston performs is called anodising, where he cuts away layers of the roofing to expose the plastic underneath.”
When you’re done, it has to be polished, cleaned and then the roof can be restored,” he explained.”
And it’s an ideal way to keep the roof looking its best.
